This volume is a new edition of papers that emerged from the First National Workshop-Conference on Teaching Philosophy (1976). This event was a milestone in the so-called "philosophy teaching movement" that arose in the late 1960s and early 70's in response to the flood of "nontraditional" students entering American higher education -- students who, previously, would not have gone to college. Published in 2012, this edition contains important work that supports philosophy teaching today.
